Split Rock Cave was discovered in the winter of 2008 by Wisconsin Speleological Society member Allan Schema on a -22deg below zero winter day. He noticed steam blowing out of an opening in the glacial sediment and talus rocks, with feather frost brimming up the bluff face at the curent day entrance of the cave. Split Rock Cave today is part of the Tartarus Cave System with several going leads. This majority of this cave is a all hands and knee crawling except for a few sit up dome areas.
