A proclamation designating August 2013 as Show Cave and Caving Month in Wisconsin was delivered this past Saturday July 21st, during the Wisconsin Speleological Society‘s monthly meeting at Maribel Caves Park.

Issued by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, the proclamation particularly recognized the work of the Wisconsin Speleological Society for its exploration, study and protection of caves and landscapes throughout the state.

Caves and the show cave industry provide wonderful recreational, educational and economic benefits for our state. The proclamation recognizes the tens of thousands of hours volunteers have performed in the discovery, exploration, education, science, management, search and rescue, conservation, and protection of caves and karst-related features. Paul Tittl, Wisconsin State Representative

With no shortage of caving and show cave opportunities to take in during the special month, visitors are encouraged to visit any of the states many caves, including Crystal Cave, Cave of the Mounds, Eagle Cave, Kickapoo Indian Caverns, Maribel Caves Park, and the Ledge View Nature Center.
